Questions & Answers - Baking Stones
|
||
Can I use some natural stone that can be purchased from my local stone and brick yard for a baking stone? We would use it for bread and pizza. We have thought of using granite or soap stone. Thank You - Bernie (12/14/05)
Yes, but make sure you are purchasing an “unglazed” stone for baking. Check out my articles on Baking Stones:
How To Clean Pizza Stones Question: Why are pizza
stones unglazed?
can a cleaner
version be
cooked on a
glazed tile? or
will it be
soggy? Answer: For cooking, you want "unglazed quarry tile." The crucial element of that is "unglazed"--glazed tiles contain chemicals that aren't good to have get into the food you're going to be cooking.
