Question:

I am working on some research for Saveur magazine. In particular, I am trying to identify a specific date in the history of Bechamel sauce that may be of some significance to our readers. Your glossary suggests that the sauce was invented by Duke Philippe De Mornay and named by and for Louis de Bechameil during the 1600's. Do you have any specific dates relating to these individuals or to the sauce itself? Perhaps the birth and death dates of the gentlemen? - Linda Hall (2/23/00)
