Question:

I enjoy your website and I have one question for you.  I am actually making an end-grain cutting board for myself, and I need to cover it with some sort of oil to seal it.  I was wondering if you knew which oils and such would best suit this purpose?  Also, what do manufacturers of these boards usually use to seal their boards?  Thanks in advance if you know.  And thank you anyways if you don't!  -  Nick (11/8/01)

Answers:

Mineral oil is used to seal cutting boards. It is "food-quality" mineral oil. In other words, you buy it at your local drug store. It is very cheap. This is what manufacturer's of boards use.
