Question:

I found your website and was hoping that you could help me figure out something.  We are making Swedish Chocolate Balls and they call for Vanilla Sugar. The German Vanilla Sugar that I can find is granulated but my girl friend says that the Swedish version of vanilla sugar is actually more of the texture of powdered sugar. Is it possible to make this?  Is it possible to buy this?  Any help would be most appreciated.  - Christina Norman (8/22/01)

Answer:

Swedish Vanilla sugar (vanillin socker) is sugar, often icing (confectioner's or powdered) sugar, to which has been added vanilla extract, vanilla aroma or beans from the vanilla pod. It is used in drinks, confectionery and in baking.
