Biscuits Cafe is a regional breakfast and lunch restaurant chain, and its food is definitely better than most breakfast restaurants. Their company motto is "We don't serve fast food . . . we serve fresh food as fast as they can!" This is a comfort food restaurant for those looking for rib-sticking food, in large portions. Biscuits definitely strives to be the best breakfast restaurant in the area.

As my husband and I are always on the lookout for places to eat breakfast, Biscuits is now on our list of favorites. They feature two of my husband's favorite breakfasts: Chicken-Fried Steak and Biscuits and Gravy.  I will be bringing him to Biscuits soon!

The relatively large dining room fills up fast at peak times, with folks waiting in line on weekends. The omelets are stuffed to bulging, covered with melted cheese of your choice, and (like most breakfast items) are served with a large portion of cooked hash browns.

On this particular day, my two daughters and grandson decided to have breakfast together.  It was around 1:00 p.m. that we arrived, just pass the usual Saturday crowd, and we were seated immediately.

Dishes we ordered with diner's comments:

Joe's Scramble - Fresh spinach, onions, tomato, bacon, potatoes, then sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, and choice of biscuit, pancakes or toast ($8.79) - My daughter really enjoyed this dish. She requested that they not scramble the eggs, but do them over easy and place on top.  They were very accommodating and did what she requested. She even ordered a side of gravy to pour over the top! Cholesterol heaven!

Loads of Corn Beef Hash - Served with hash browns, two eggs, and choice of biscuits, pancakes or toast ($9.00) - This dish was excellent, and my daughter even shared a bite with me.  The corn beef hash is excellent. This is also one of their specialty dishes. I forgot to get a photo here.

French Toast with choice of ham, bacon, or sausage ($7.60) - My grandson ordered this. He "wolfed" it down so fast, and he had a grin on his face. He definitely enjoyed it!

Omelet, load of ham, bacon, or sausage smothered in cheddar cheese. Served with red potatoes or hash browns, and choice of biscuits, pancakes, or toast ($8.79) - As I am an omelet lover, especially with ham and cheese, this is what I ordered. They actually have a choice of eleven different omelets. The omelet was excellent and cooked perfect!  Their biscuits were light and fluffy, and they are served with either strawberry or blackberry freezer jam. There was so much food on my place that I couldn't eat it all.

Check out their Strawberry Waffles! One of the fellow diners at an adjoining table graciously let me take a photo of her breakfast.

Reviews from other diners:

I am always on the lookout for a really good breakfast restaurant and as you've said, there are very few of those on Portland. On the plus side, the portion I was given was massive. I am 6', 280# so not that easy to fill up. I had the corned beef and eggs which was quite tasty. The corned beef was actually shredded beef with a little potato mixed in but a very ample potion. With that came eggs, pancakes and hash browns. I don't care for hash browns but they put them on the plate anyway.

Biscuits is a bit pricey for every day but considering the volume and quality of the food was worth the money. The coffee was excellent, BTW. The service left a bit to be desired. I would characterize it as "indifferent".

Finally, there must be something about the building Biscuits is in. There have been about a half dozen restaurants taking up occupancy in that space since they built it and I have yet to be in any of them when there wasn't at least one screaming kid seated close by. For a $6 meal at McDonalds, you more or less expect to have to put up with things like that. But Biscuits should take advantage of their meeting room and shuttle parents with young children in there so that the adults can dine in peace. - Frank Saxton (19/29/07)

This was not my first visit. The restaurant is packed as it was the last time.  Get in line. The place was noisy and uncomfortable. I was not impressed.

The food was good but I was not happy with the size portion compared to the cost on the menu. For a restaurant that has the name Biscuits Café you would think their signature item would be Biscuits??? I got these tiny things and were not even two bites smothered in gravy that had way to much spice, to much pepper, and I’m not entirely sure what the other spice was. We had the biscuits and gravy @ $11.00 - ouch! And two French toasts @ $9.00 (for bread and butter and syrup?)

The service was OK at best considering they were so busy. So it will be a long time coming before I venture back to this restaurant. - Bob (3/25/07)
