The Park Kitchen is located in Portland's trendy Pearl District, know for its eclectic collection of art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. Park Kitchen is a small and intimate restaurant with large glass front windows, leading in to a bar behind which is a comfortable dining room and an open kitchen. The dining tables are rather close together, which doesn't make for much privacy. In nice weather, sidewalk dining is available. Be sure to either make reservations or go early in the evening for dinner.

The Chef/Owner, Scott Dolich, features very inventive dishes using local products in very unusual and delicious ways. The dinner menu is divided into a Small Hot Plates, Small Cold Plates, and a Large Hot Plates section. You can choose  a little of something from each section. You will wish that you could try everything on the menu. My friend and I decided to order the small plates from the menu and share each dish.

Dishes we ordered:

Small Hot Plates:

Salt cod fritters with malt vinegar. $8.50
These were good, but tasted more of mashed potatoes than cod.

Fried green beans and bacon, tarragon aioli. $10.00
These were fabulous. They were served in the manner of pomme frites (French fries). They reminded me of dining at the Bouchon Restaurant in Napa Valley.

Gnocchi, walnuts and pan fried padron peppers. $12.00
I forgot to take a photo of this dish.  Since I am not a fan of green bell pepper, I didn't like the padron peppers.

Small Cold Plates:

Flank steak with blue cheese, parsley and sherried onions. $11.00
Excellent! I especially like the blue cheese.

Heirloom tomatoes, spiced eggplant and lamb salad. $10.50
Another excellent dish. You could tell that the tomatoes were fresh-picked from a garden.

Ken's bread and house made crackers with good olive oil. $4.50
We wished they had added more bread as it was so good!

Desserts:

Venus grape sorbet, peanut baklava. $8.00
Oh, you can't believe how wonderful tasting this was!  The waiter said it was to remind you of your childhood peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich. You is definitely a must try!
