Rebecca's at the Lodge

This beautiful restaurant is
located in the Lodge at Cloudcroft.
The lodge has a AAA, Three-Diamond resort rating, is nestled in the
Sacramento Mountains of Southern New Mexico, and is surrounded by
the mountain pines and aspens of the Lincoln National Forest.
A mere 30 minute drive from nearby Alamogordo.
Rebecca's
mountaintop elegant dining is in a casual atmosphere plus a fantastic setting for a wonderful, romantic evening out.
The historic building offers great views of the Tularosa Basin
and White Sands. Not only is the food great, but the atmosphere will
take you away from the stress of everyday life.
There
is a popular legend at The Lodge that dates back to the early 1900's
that involves a beautiful young chambermaid with beautiful blue eyes
and shocking red hair who disappeared from her quarters after her
lumberjack lover found her in the arms of another. It is claimed
there are people who vow that Rebecca still wanders the halls
of this historic hotel. It has been said that ashtrays have been
seen sliding across tables unassisted, doors open and close for no
apparent reason, furniture has been moved, lights have turned on and
off by themselves, and fires have spontaneously ignited in the
fireplace that are attributed to Rebecca's spirit. The restaurant is
name after this fun-loving ghost, Rebecca.
Photo on the left is a stained-glass mural of the famous Rebecca in the
dining room.
This restaurant is one of the few
left that serve the wonderful classical foods of Caesar Salad, Flambé of
Lobster Tails, Chateaubriand, and Banana Foster. They also serve Escargot as an appetizer.
They are all a "must have" on the menu.
Classic Caesar Salad for Two (Minimum of Two) - A classic tableside
presentation blended to perfection, noted for its distinctive taste.
$8.00 per guest.
As no one in our party had a
classically prepared Caesar Salad in years, we had to order it.
It was prepared with all the pomp that I haven't seen in years. Very
reasonable price for this wonderful salad.

Amuse Bouche - The chef
served an asparagus soup on the night we dined there.
This was really our only disappointed of our dining experience at
this restaurant. The soup was not strained and had asparagus strings
in it. It was really bad! Since this was an amuse bouche, we
were not charged extra for this soup, and it is a good thing!
Main
Courses:

Prime Rib - 12 ounce slow-roasted prime rib served with au just and
horseradish filling in pate a choux pastry. $28.00
The prime rib was slightly overcooked and chewy.

Roasted Duck - Oven roasted duck leg and breast with Madeira wine and
thyme demi-glace. $28.00
This was very good!

Rack
of Lamb - Herb crusted New Zealand lamb rack seared with prickly pear
cactus glaze. $36.00
This was perfectly cooked but coated with too much pepper!

Desserts
- Banana Foster.
Of course, all four of us had to order the Banana Foster for
dessert. It was absolutely fabulous and the tableside presentation
was wonderful! Be sure and order this for dessert.
