Overall Review:
The food didn't meet our expectations of the reviews I had read about the restaurant. Was it just an off night or what?

The servers were very friendly and prompt.

Ricardo's has grown from a small "mom & pop" Italian deli-style restaurant with red and white checkered plastic table cloths into a full-fledge Italian restaurants in the Lake Oswego area. Tables are very close together with not much privacy. It seems to be a popular place to eat, as their tables were full. They also have a courtyard for outdoor eating in the summer months. When you first walk in, you are in a tiny 4-seat bar with one table. Our friends joined us for our Friday date night. They served a basket of various fresh baked bread that were delicious!

What we ordered with diner's comments:

Starter:

Polenta Tartufata - Polenta broiled iwth fontina cheese, and scented with white truffle oil. ($8.00) - This was delicious and delightful! I could make a meal of this polenta with truffle oil.

Main Dishes:

Costatine di Agnello - A grilled New Zealand lamb chop rack, with Rosemary and seasonings; served over carmelized onions with demi-glace gastriche, polenta and sauteed greens. ($26.00) -  My husband ordered the lamb, and he said it was cooked perfectly to his taste. It was delightful!

Vitello alla Piccata - Veal medallions briskly sauteed and served in the classic, if ubiquitous sauce of capers and lemon. ($26.00) - I ordered the veal picatta, as it has always been one of my favorite dishes. But, tonight it didn't live up to my expectations.  The veal was not tender and something about the sauce didn't taste right for being the classic dish it is supposed to be (the lemon-wine flavor was lacking). I was very disappointed!

Maccarello alla Nocciola - Fresh Hawaiian Ono grilled and topped with a roasted hazelnut cream sauce. ($24.00) - Our friend was very disappointed in this dish.  It arrived cold, like it had been sitting around for awhile, plus the fish was overcooked!

Pollo alla Cacciatora - Free-range chicken grilled, then baked in marinara sauce with olives, rosemary; served with garlic sauteed greens and polenta. ($22.00) - This dish was excellent. It was such a big piece of chicken, that our friends took the remainder home.

Overall Comments:  The vegetable served with all the dishes were very undercooked. It was like they just barely warmed them. I like crisp-cooked vegetables, but this was the other extreme!

Desserts:

(We like to share desserts)

Pasticcio di Mele - House made pie, filled with organic Pinova apples and baked in a light flaky crust ($7.00) - The pie filling was good, but forget having a light flaky crust. The crust was tough and heavy.

Crostata di Noce - Traditional sweet nut torte made up of walnuts, hazelnuts and pecans in a delicious bourbon glaze atop a flaky pastry crust. ($7.00) - No one liked this torte, as it had an off chemical taste that we couldn't figure out what caused it. Maybe it was the combination of too many varieties of nuts?
