In a large bowl, gently toss the strawberries and champagne together. NOTE: If preparing ahead of time, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Just before serving, gently toss with the rose petals.
Serve in attractive individual serving bowls or in margarita glasses.
Makes 4 servings.
* When purchasing strawberries from the grocery store, shop with your nose. Always pick the plumpest and most fragrant berries. They should be firm, bright, and fresh looking with no mold or bruises, and fresh green caps (stems). The caps should be bright green, fresh looking and fully attached. Berries should be dry and clean; usually medium to small berries have better eating quality than large ones.
1 small basket = 1 pint strawberries = 12 large strawberries = 24 medium strawberries = 36 small strawberries.
1 pint = 2 to 2.5 cups sliced (1/4-inch thick slices) strawberries.
** If desired, sparkling grape juice can be used in place of the champagne.
*** Make sure to use organic rose petals that have not been sprayed and are especially grown to be eaten. Your local grocery store, farmer's market, or even your own garden should have some pesticide and chemical free roses.
