Pomegranate Martini Recipe

 

Pomegranate Martinis are a sexy cocktail – just the right blend of sweet and tart without being too much of either.  This drink is similar to a Cosmopolitan, but features the delicious ruby-red pomegranate juice.  Perfect to serve to your family and friends for the upcoming holiday season or any winter gathering.  What about a cozy winter night at home?

This cocktail is loaded with antioxidants and flavor.  It’s health benefits are numerous from anti-oxidants and anti-cancer abilities to reducing cholesterol and cleansing the arteries. Pomegranate Martinis are a great New Year’s Eve cocktail as Pomegranates represent good luck in Turkey.

Pomegranate Martini Recipe:

Ingredients
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice (see recipe below for making juice if can not find it at your local store)*
  • 2 ounces Absolute Citron Vodka or white tequila
  • 1 ounce Cointreau Liqor
  • Splash of sparkling water
  • Squeeze of lemon
  • Superfine sugar (for dipping)
  • Pomegranate seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Pomegranate Martini Instructions:
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.  Place pomegranate juice, vodka, Cointreau, sparkling water, and lemon juice; shake.  Pour strained liquor into sugar-rimmed martini cocktail glass.  Garnish each with some pomegranate seeds.

  2. NOTE : To create a sugar-rimmed glass, take a lemon or lime wedge and rub the drinking surface of the glass so it is barely moist.  Dip the edge of the glass in the sugar.

  3. Makes 2 serving.

Pomegranate Juice Instructions:
  1. To make Pomegranate Juice, cut a ripe medium-sized pomegranate in half and squeeze with any conventional juicer or press. If necessary, also strain the juice through a mesh strainer.

  2. Each Pomegranate should yield about 4 ounces (1/2 cup) of juice.

    I bought Monin Pomegranate Syrup. Can I use that instead of the juice, and if so how much?

      The syrup would have a lot of sugar in it.
