My youngest daughter ordered these for her toddler son at a local Hawaiian restaurant in the Portland area. He was so delighted with these Hawaiian Shoyu Hot Dogs that were served over rice that he gobbled them up! She has since cooked them for family dinner a couple times and the kids and adults all enjoyed this meal.
More delicious Hawaiian food to learn about and to make: Loco Moco, Poke, Shave Ice, and Spam – Spam Musubi.
- 8 beef hot dogs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil*
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons (firmly-packed) brown sugar
- Rice, cooked
-
Slice the hot dogs into 1/4-inch slices on the diagonal.
-
In a medium-sized frying pan over medium-high heat, add oil and heat until warm. Add the hot dogs and cook until they start to brown at the edges. Next, add in the soy sauce and brown sugar; stir until sugar is dissolved.
-
Saute the hot dogs in the sauce until the sauce starts to thicken and the hot dogs get a nice glazed look. Remove from heat.
-
Serve the hot dogs over the cooked rice and drizzle a little of the sauce on top.
-
Enjoy!
* Can substitute olive oil or canola oil

I made the Hawaiian Shoyu hot dogs and they were so good I had to remind my husband to come up for air… Yummy!

I added pineapple chunks and red and orange bell pepper chunks with the hot dogs. It was easy, fast and tasty! Thank you!
