Graham Cracker Pie Crust Recipe

Graham Cracker Pie Crust is moist, tasty, tender and very easy to make. All you need is a few ingredients and a few minutes. It is really simple once you know how to make it, gather up your crushed graham crackers, sugar and butter the combine graham cracker crumbs and granulated sugar in a bowl. Pour in melted butter and stir with a fork to combine all the ingredients.  Once the ingredients are all combined, use your fingers to press the mixture into a pie pan. Making this crust is a great kid-friendly recipe. Kids love to get involved and help out when you are cooking in the kitchen. Plus there is the bonus of them getting their fingers sticky with the graham cracker mix, and then you know what comes next.
After making your own Graham Cracker Pie Crust, you will never go back to buying a pre-made graham cracker crust in the grocery store again.  I know it is an easy temptation to grab one from the shelf as that is the quick and easy alternative. The store-bought crusts have been sitting around for a while and are usually a bit dry. I have had several sort of them just fall apart on me as well.  This recipe is quick and easy, and once you make it once you will love the taste and so much more than the pre-made crust. You can use this recipe for baked and no-bake pies, bars, and other desserts.

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs or 10 to 12 whole graham crackers*
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. In a small saucepan or microwave, melt the butter.

  3. In a medium-sized bowl or a food processor, combine graham crackers, sugar, and melted butter; blend until the texture of coarse meal.

  4. Press graham cracker mixture into a 9- or 10-inch pie pan.  Try to make the crust about 1/8 inch (1/3 cm) evenly all around.  If the crumb mixture will not stick where you press them, just add another tablespoon of water to the mix.  Even the crumbs up and make sure there are no gaps or holes.  NOTE: If you chill the crust for an hour before you bake it, this will help prevent crumbling when you want to serve it.

  5. Bake approximately 8 to 10 minutes.  The edges may be just slightly browned, but you do not want the edges or crust to over-brown.

  6. Remove from oven and let crust cool, on a wire rack, before filling.  TIP: Before serving loosen pie crust from pan; dip bottom in hot water for a few seconds.

  7. Makes 1 graham cracker pie crust.

  8. Variation Ideas:

  9. Use chocolate graham crackers.

  10. Add 1/4 cup nuts (of your choice) to mixture before processing.

  11. Add a little cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice to the crumbs for a spiced flavor.

  12. Peanut Butter and Graham Cracker Pie Crust - Substitute 1/3 cup smooth or crunchy peanut butter for the butter.

Recipe Notes

* If using the whole graham crackers, place them in a re-sealable plastic bag and crush with your rolling pin.  Then measure 1 1/2 cups of crumbs.

    Lovely recipe. Thanks. Just a minor point. In the line that begins “If using the whole graham cracker” it should read CRUSH with your rolling pin, not crust.
