Question:

I'd like to make my own sun dried tomatoes. How do I go about doing this without the need to buy an expensive electrical 'gadget' to do it for me. Can it be done slowly in the oven with the same effects? - Kristy Waugh (11/16/99)

Answer:

Yes, you can dry tomatoes in the oven. Using plum tomatoes, cut them in halves and spread on baking sheets. Drizzle with some olive oil, salt and pepper, and even some minced garlic for added flavor. Using a 200 degree F. oven, bake slowly for 6 to 8 hours (be sure and check the progress as it bakes).
