Orange Hard Sauce, also known as Brandy Butter and Rum Butter, is so easy to make and so delicious on desserts such as cakes and gingerbread, and whatever else sounds good to you. Just wait until you get a taste of this fantastic Orange Hard Sauce that also includes some liqueur!
Hard sauce is a soft butter topping that is meant to be served on top of warm desserts like pies (such as mincemeat pies), bread puddings, Christmas or Plum puddings, fruit cakes, etc. Hard sauces are a decadent toppings that contains booze and usually served around the Christmas holiday. Traditionally hard sauce is made with one measure of fresh butter to two measures of sugar.

- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons brandy, bourbon, rum, orange liqueur, or Cognac (your choice)*
- 1 teaspoon orange zest (peel), finely grated

Using your electric mixture, combine powdered sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

Add the liquor of your choice and grated orange peel. Stir until well combined.

Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Can be made 4 days ahead.

Bring to room temperature before serving.
* Traditional Hard Sauces use brandy.
