Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips Recipe

These Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips are a tasty snack to make with apples.

A perfect snack to enjoy when fall apples are in season. My daughter likes to make these for family treats.  Her five year old son could not wait to take some to school for snack time.  These apple chips are easy to make and your house will smell delicious as the apples and cinnamon are baking in the oven. The low oven temperature allows the moisture of the apples to dry out and the chips to become very crispy.  The chips taste best if baked until crispy.

Servings: 2 cups
  • 2 large apples, washed, wax scrubbed off, peeled, and cored*
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar**
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon, ground
  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.  Move oven racks to top and bottom of the oven (put one baking sheet on the top rack of the oven and the 2nd baking sheet on the bottom rack of the oven).  Line two large baking sheets with Silicone Baking Mats or parchment paper.

  2. Remove the middle core and seeds of the apples before slicing.

  3. Using a mandoline or a spiral slicer, thinly slice the apples into approximately 1/8-inch to 1/16-inch rings.  If sliced too thick, the apples would take longer to bake and turn out mushy. The thinner the apple slices, the better.  If you don't have a mandoline or a spiral slice, use a very shape knife to slice.

  4. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon together; set aside.  If substituting the sugar with agave syrup, do not premix with the cinnamon.  Drizzle the agave syrup on top of the apple slice on the baking sheet, and then sprinkle with the cinnamon.  Place the apple slices on the prepared baking sheets in a single layer (make sure not to overlap the apple slices or place them on top of each other).  Sprinkle the cinnamon/sugar mixture over the top of all the apple slices.

  5. Bake for 2 hours.  Rotate the baking sheets halfway through the baking time to allow for even browning.  Apples vary in size and moisture content, so it might take you more or less time.  Continue to bake a couple minutes at a time if the apple slices are not crisp enough.  Remove from oven and let cool before serving.

* Honey Crisp apples were used in this recipe, but any apple variety you have on hand will work.
