What could be easier and simpler than an old-fashioned oatmeal cookie?  Easy-to-make and always delicious! I like adding raisins to this simple version, but you can add nuts and/or chocolate chips if desired.

Best Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

Recipe Type: Cookies, Christmas Cookie, Oatmeal, Drop Cookies
Yields: 3 dozen cookies
Prep time: 15 min
Cook time: 12 min


Ingredients:

1 cup butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
Raisins (optional)


Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets.

fresh baked oatmeal cookiesIn a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat until smooth. Stir in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and ground cinnamon.

Add the rolled oats and continue stirring until combined. NOTE: If you are adding nuts, raisins, or chips, add them now.

Place round tablespoons of dough on prepared cookie sheets. The mounds of dough should be no larger than a walnut.

Bake 9 to 12 minutes or until light brown and bottoms are golden (cookies should not get brown). Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.

Yields 3 dozen cookies.
