Gelato Spazzacamino is a fantastic and unique Italian ice cream that is also know as Chimney Sweet Ice Cream.  The combination of sweet ice cream and bitter toppings, gradually melting together, makes this delicious Gelato Spazzacamino a unique and tasty combination that is elegant, yet takes only minutes to make.  This combination of only three ingredients may sound strange, but they work perfectly together.  You have to try this ice cream dessert to believe it!

In Italian, spazzacamino means chimney sweep, ashman, and chimney sweeper.

This is a recipe is from the cookbook The Classic Italian Cookbook, by Marcella Hazan.

Yield:

Ingredients:

1 large scoop quality vanilla ice cream*
1 tablespoon good (15 ml) Scotch whisky**
1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) extremely finely-ground espresso coffee beans***

*  Be sure and use a top-quality (premium) ice cream and scotch whisky when making this dish.

**  Use blended scotch rather than single malt.

***  I have substituted finely-ground regular coffee beans and even instant coffee powder in a pinch.

Instructions:

Place the ice cream in a bowl or large wine glass.  Pour the Scotch whisky over the top of the ice cream and sprinkle with the ground coffee.

Alternative Idea:  Replace ground coffee with freshly-ground black pepper.  Use about 6 grinds per portion.
