Questions and Answers – Freezing Whipped Cream

Question:

I have some whipped, sweetened cream left over – can I freeze it.  Thanks  – Carolyn Wallace (12/14/01)

Answers:

Never throw leftover whipped cream that did not get served.

Only heavy cream and whipping cream can be successfully frozen.  You can frozen whipped cream on desserts, coffee, or hot chocolate.  Whipped cream should not be kept frozen longer than two months before using.

Whipped cream freezes well but must be sweetened and flavored before freezing.  The added sugar also helps preserve the cream slightly better than without it.

It may also be frozen and stored in individual servings.  Make dollops of whipped cream on a piece of waxed paper lined cookie sheet and freeze.  Once frozen, wrap each frozen portion individually in plastic wrap or freezer bags and put into airtight freezer containers to store.
